- Chinese citizen or foreigners with valid residence visa of the People¡¯s Republic of China
- Good command of spoken and written English is an asset. The winner of Mr. Gay China will compete in The Mr. Gay World Pageant, which will be conducted in English. However, this is not a requirement. A translator will be provided free-of-charge during the World Pageant.
- Minimum height requirement of 5¡¯7¡± or 170cm
- No previous criminal record
- Is eligible for travel to Oslo, Norway for the Mr. Gay World finals in February 2010

The Mr. Gay China competition is much more than a beauty contest. While physical beauty will be part of the judges¡¯ considerations, it is a young man¡¯s character and personality that will make a difference in the selection.
The jury will consist of at least five persons, with one Director from Gayographic being appointed Head of the Jury.
The jury will focus on a young man who:
- shows an interest in the world around him;
- can articulate his thoughts;
- has an innate charm and sparkle;
- is special, but real;
- has poise and confidence without coming across as arrogant;
- can be an ambassador of goodwill;
- is the quintessential young man that is representative of China.

- There is no limit as to the number of candidates represented from any province, municipality or SAR;
- Candidates will be shortlisted upon application review from judges and organizers. Applicants will be judged on their suitability.
- The top five to eight finalists will be announced after review by the Mr. Gay China selection committee which will be comprised by a panel of expert judges;
- All finalists shall take part in Mr. Gay China¡¯s Grand Finale show;
- The top candidates will compete in Sportswear, Swimwear and Q&A round with the judges;
- Mr. Gay China is proclaimed;
- All candidates shall remain present until the new Mr. Gay China is announced.
