As a gay person, there is a lot to be excited and optimistic about for being in China at the moment. In spite of the seemingly slow movements and false starts at times, look at what has been accomplished or started in this decade alone, especially in the past few years:

• In April 20, 2001, the Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders formally removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses.

Our newly opened gay bar, G9, has been awefully quiet (closed) during this week. Was it because of our ongoing conference questionably discussing same sex marriage in China? Spotted, a man kneeling in front another popping the question. The passers-by stared and screamed, but one of our princes said ‘yes’ with a smile. Rumor has it that the one with the bouquet runs our one and only Destination Club. Will our social prince live happily ever after with his significant other? Who cares!?
