In this crazy city, it seems that even the Italians want a piece of the pink pie. The new Italian supermarket/restaurant/bar mega complex, Piazza Italia, at Dawang Lu, just to the north of Shinkuang Place, is gearing up for a regular homo night in the near future. If Italian cuisine gives you gastronomic orgasms, then this place will certainly get you off faster than you can say “gnocchi”. Upon entering the sprawling building, you are greeted with a rather large Italian supermarket that seems to sell everything Italian short of Sophia Loren. The second floor, which is the restaurant, is where the real fun begins. If you are a fan of pasta, you will certainly not be disappointed. Unfortunately, fresh back from a fat inducing trip to New York, your correspondent opted for the Caesar salad, rather than the carb-loaded pasta, but from the creepy and longing stares at the pasta plates of other patrons, I can assure you that the pasta at least looks delicious. To top it off, the top floor is the main bar area, serving everything from wine to Negronis. This comfortable area with plush seating and plentiful Italian snacks (for those who skip the second floor and head straight to the top for the booze) will be an excellent spot for an evening happy hour event. The management is considering Tuesday night as a possible day for their homo event. Details are still forthcoming, but with its location in the CBD, its wonderful food, and great drinks, we’re sure this will be a favorite Tuesday night wind-down joint for the area’s pink corporate slaves.
