Rather than hide at home in our underwear with a bottle of gin (our usual nightly activity), we have decided to continue with the Gayographic nights at Lantung and Lan Club on Thursday and Friday despite the holiday celebrations. The big day will be October 1st and Lantung will be setting up a big screen and outdoor seating for the fireworks display so you can safely watch the festivities from the other side of town, far away from the hordes and the chaos. For many of us living here in Beijing, the idea of a gay tour is usually nothing more than doing a quick walk around through the dark recesses of Destination on a Saturday night. However, there is a new tour guide company in Beijing that targets gay clients who are visiting China for some sightseeing and fun. ChinaMango was started in 2009 by a local Chinese who saw the need to provide specialized services (but not of any sexual kind!) for gay tourists. Jet from ChinaMango was convinced that gay tourists visiting the capital would like to visit gay-friendly establishments and meet local gay people during their sightseeing trips throughout Beijing. After a slow start, it seems that their idea is starting to pay off

Founders of irreverent city blog Gayographic talk pink Beijing, building a community and what the future holds for LGBT issues in China.

Following in the footsteps of some of the more progressive members of our community, Lantung and Gayographic have decided on a open relationship with their cocktails, but for one night only. At the end of this month, the Gayographic night at Lantung will have been an established part of the party circuit for six months. As in most long-term relationships, it is necessary to spice things up a little to rekindle the flames. So, to celebrate our anniversary and to thank all of you, our Gayographic hordes, next Thursday, September 10, Lantung and Gayographic will be offering an open bar on select drinks starting at 10pm till the booze runs out. You guys have spoken and due to the popularity of our Friday night LAN Club parties, we are now making it a weekly event every Friday. With the Beijing heat in fast remission, now is the time to dress in your finest outfits without the fear of looking like you just sucked on a big fat lajiao. Of course, the half priced drink specials all evening and the lucky draw prizes will continue. We also have some interesting surprises coming in the near future including several themes to keep this regular event from going flaccid. For the first time in China, a mainstream men’s fashion magazine iLOOK featured the word “GAY” on its cover. With the help of renowned photographer Xu Chuang, Chinese Dutch fashion designer Xander Zhou honorably takes the throne in his black velvet gown. Over 100 pages of special featured stories of gay social elites from all walks of life made this issue of iLOOK shockingly impressive. iLOOK has been acclaimed for its progressive trendy taste in men. This time, it has gone to literally say the name of the audience they are targeting. Nevertheless, the word “GAY” in the title “GAY CHINA” has been translated to mean “happy” to avoid trouble from you-know-who.
