Simon Wang in Paris

   >10-06-27   >Posted by niuniu   >Category: Gossip, News   >Tags:

gayographic1006283Simon Wang, the popular contestant of Mr. Gay China 2010 whose face swept over hundreds of papers and magazines last winter, was just in Paris recently. His fabulousness ( and gayness) was recorded and sent back to Gayographic so that we are looking at him posing naturally in the middle of street, possibly stopping traffic, literally.

Now that he is an internationally recognized gay celebrity, it must be hard to catch him for a drink. Next time you run into him, wherever it is, please take a snapshot and send it to info@gayographic.org as well.

Ghouls and Gays get Funky at Smut

   >09-11-06   >Posted by Ryan Dutcher   >Category: Gossip   >Tags: ,

gayographic2009110454Our friends over at Queer Comrades thew another scandalously queer party at the steadfastly heterosexual bar, Tun, on Halloween. Ghoulish queens and frightening fags descended upon the Tun in droves dressed in their smuttiest outfits, with some so convincing that Gayographic wonders if this whole city is one giant S&M freak. The Smut Party, the Queer Comrades answer to the drunken mess that is the Yen Fetish Party, was a huge success with live shows that got the crowds whipped up and whipped hard. As always, the QC folks organized two fabulous shows

iLOOK: GAY CHINA

   >09-09-01   >Posted by Ben Zhang   >Category: Gossip, News   >Tags: , , , ,

gayographic2009082345For the first time in China, a mainstream men’s fashion magazine iLOOK featured the word “GAY” on its cover. With the help of renowned photographer Xu Chuang, Chinese Dutch fashion designer Xander Zhou honorably takes the throne in his black velvet gown. Over 100 pages of special featured stories of gay social elites from all walks of life made this issue of iLOOK shockingly impressive. iLOOK has been acclaimed for its progressive trendy taste in men. This time, it has gone to literally say the name of the audience they are targeting. Nevertheless, the word “GAY” in the title “GAY CHINA” has been translated to mean “happy” to avoid trouble from you-know-who. On behalf of Gayographic, I want to extend my gratitude to Hong Huang and Xander Zhou for their accomplishment.

Waxing of the Summer and the Rise of the Mooncake

   >09-08-30   >Posted by Ryan Dutcher   >Category: Gossip, News   >Tags: ,

gayographic200908306Around this time last year, the Olympic athletes were packing their bags, counting their medals, and getting drunk one last time at the Holland Heineken House. As the Olympic hangover finally set in, we were in the headlong rush to wintertime. Unfortunately, we don’t have an Olympic sized event to ride the adrenal rush all the way to wool jacket season. Instead, it seems, this summer is going out with a more of a whimper than a bang. In the US, we have the Labor Day holiday as the unofficial end of summer, but here in China, it is the appearance of the humble mooncake on store shelves that immediately hits home that the days of lounging around in speedos

gayographic200908103Popo Fan, our Beijing gay film master, who was recently featured in Timeout Beijing, just returned from the World Out Games in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is extremely grateful for all those who contributed their time and effort to send him to compete at the Games on behalf of China. Gayographic caught up with Popo to find out about his experience in Copenhagen:

Gayographic: Was that your first time to travel to Europe? Were you happy with the food and accommodations there?

Beach, Boys & Speedos!

gayographic20090711If you’re like me then you’ve been staring dreamily at those advertisements on Fridae.com for summer pool parties in homo-licious southern destinations like Hong Kong and B-B-B-Bangkok, haven’t you? Well it’s time to wipe away that drool, honey, and stop moping – China’s pink capital has a pool-licious, gay-friendly destination all of its own: Tuan Jie Hu (团结湖) Water Park!

Ever cycled through that quiet, picturesque little district of mostly walk-up apartments and tree-lined streets just two blocks north of the almost/soon-to-be/not-quite-ready-yet CCTV headquarters

Getting Shanghaied to Shanghai

   >09-06-17   >Posted by Ryan Dutcher   >Category: Gossip, News   >Tags: , ,

gayographic2009061509In what could be called a gay pride parade in its own right, flight after flight took off from Beijing Capital Airport headed to Shanghai filled with the queerest of Beijing’s queers. The reason being the first gay pride in China, an event that most of us here in the Capital couldn’t miss. Beijing already held a coming out party last year for the Olympics and now Shanghai wanted to come out too, but only to scream “we’re queer!” not “Beijing Huan Ying Ni!”

As expected, most of us only went down for the parties, completely missing the cultural aspects of Pride Week. Once we landed, we jumped headfirst into the parties starting with an all-you-can-drink event at Shanghai Studio. The claustrophobic underground bomb-shelteresque bar was overflowing with homos. If the Soviet menace were to suddenly reappear with the bomb being dropped on Shanghai, the only ones to survive would be 200 inebriated homos in feather boas and sequined gowns. Unfortunately, we would be the wrong people for repopulation.

In The Mood For Lube?

   >09-05-24   >Posted by Ryan Dutcher   >Category: Gossip, Shopping   >Tags: , , ,

gayographic200905241Beijing is one of the driest cities in the world, so, one would think, that personal lubrication would be abundantly available here to moisten things up when the going gets dry. If you thought that, you would be wrong. Condoms are readily available all over the city, with even a cigarette vendor offering condoms for sale outside Destination, along with the mysterious purchase option of “gay sex” (note to self: interview this guy later since he may have a more than a few stories to tell). Even though the sex shops are extremely numerous and sell personal lubricant, it is often of poor quality that dries quality leaving you sticky and flaccid. Among our community, personal lube would often be flown in with returning or

Guys & Dolls Brave Rain & Cold for La La Lantung

   >09-05-22   >Posted by Ryan Dutcher   >Category: Gossip, News   >Tags: , , , ,

gayographic20090529We want to thank everyone for coming to our very first ladies’ night at Lantung on Thursday despite the rain and the unusual chilly weather. Lantung was once again packed with a nice mix between guys and dolls, which is exactly what we wanted to see on our first night. Lantung was packed with over 150 people who braved the wet and chilly weather, which exceeded our expectations by a clear mile. Because of the large crowd, service once again was a sore spot for many. On your behalf, we are talking to Lantung management to address this, but since the rooftop was closed and only one bar available, the Lantung staff was a bit overwhelmed. Hopefully, next week’s weather, and each week thereafter, will be nice and summery, thus ensuring two bars and faster service. After receiving very positive feedback from our la la sisters, and the fact that the our two crowds mixed well and did not devolve into a cat and dog fight, we will continue our La La Lantung parties once a month. So stay tuned ladies for your next not so typical ladies’ night!

gayographic200905201Part 1: The Great Wall Video

“Hi, I am Niuniu. I am Liangliang. We are from Beijing China…(and we are so proud to be gay!)”

On about the 20th take, Niuniu and I finally got it right. It was a video for International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). Despite the big sun, the seemingly endless car ride, an extremely cynical cameraman, and a zillion shocked or in some cases funny faces from tourists on the wall, we did it! We actually did it 20 times at various parts of the wall in English, Mandarin and my hilarious mother tongue Tianjin dialect. Unfortunately, part of our speech was cut.

Delay no more. Check it out right now.
