Regarding Same-sex Marriage
Most Chinese people assume that the US capital is New York. You can laugh but it’s also true that some American high school students can’t pinpoint Taiwan on a world map. Maybe they can’t find China first!? (oops!) But why does this have to do with same-sex marriage? Well, it doesn’t. My point is that most Chinese gay people don’t care about themselves enough to give a damn to same-sex marriage or at what stage this law has passed up in the government. There are many more basic needs to meet such as buying food and shampoo. This legal bonding seems to be a luxury that the LGBT community can’t afford, for now.
You know, when you hear American gay rights activists talk about the fight for gay marriage against those who tout “family values” it sounds like an epic battle. First of all, it never fails to irritate me that the opposition insists that gay people, of course, have neither families nor any values. Anyways, I digress. Activists always talk about the front lines of this rainbow-colored war being state legislatures and state supreme courts, where eloquent lawyers, esteemed civil rights organzations, powerful lobbying forces, and religious institutions duke it out on a grand scale. They paint a picture in our heads – 50 separate battles going on, state-by-state…
New York Times article Many Successful Gay Marriages Share an Open Secret basically told me that if I want my relationship to work in a long run, I might want to consider sharing my boyfriend with others. I mean, sure! China is a communist country after all. Aren’t we supposed to share everything? But to prove that I am not a slut, but a communist, I asked my Chinese fellows to get more perspectives.
So the New York Times is reporting that a new study, soon to be published, confirms the fact that gay men are sluts. You don’t believe me? Check it out yourself! …okay, okay, so maybe it doesn’t exactly say that gay men are sluts – it says that gay men in the Bay Area are sluts …or if you want to get technical about it, “non-monogamous.” So how about the rest of us?
